About Your Credentialed School Nurse

My Personal Philosophy on Student Care and Achievement

I believe in delivering care with respect, empathy, and an understanding of each student’s unique needs. Every student and family is different, and it is my responsibility to not only address the health and well-being of the students but also to consider the broader context of their lives.

For me, this means actively learning about the student's specific health requirements—whether physical, mental, or emotional—while also acknowledging the challenges their family may face in supporting their child. By building a deeper understanding of both the student’s needs and their family's circumstances, I can create a holistic approach to care that encourages the students’ success in every aspect of their lives.

This philosophy extends beyond just individual care. I believe that collaboration is essential to providing comprehensive support. Working closely with other school professionals—such as the school psychologist, social workers, counselors, and administrators—allows us to create a cohesive network of care that addresses the full range of student needs. Together, we can identify potential barriers to learning, offer emotional and mental health support, and develop strategies that ensure every student has the resources they need to thrive.

Ultimately, my goal is to help every student reach their full potential, not only through the support I provide within the school but by partnering with families and collaborating with my colleagues to address the broader challenges they may face. When students feel understood, supported, and connected with a team of professionals who are working together on their behalf, they are more likely to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially.

Why Your School Needs Nurse Services

An effective school health program can be one of the single most cost-effective investments a nation can make to simultaneously improve education and health

-World Health Organization

California Education Code Compliance

  • Student Health and Safety: School nurses see that the requirements for providing health services, immunizations, and the proper management of student medical conditions

  • Ensuring local, state, and federal health regulations, including immunization requirements, emergency procedures, and health safety standards are followed

  • Special Education: Ensuring recommendations regarding services and 504 accommodations for students with disabilities are appropriate and comprehensive

Limit District Liability

  • Minimize Legal and Health Risks: Enhancing the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the broader school community, effectively limiting liability for schools

  • Reduce the Likelihood of Negligence Claims: Proper staff training on appropriate first aid, proper medication administration, and appropriate emergency response

  • Proper Documentation: Well-documented records can protect the school in the event of legal claims related to a student’s health or medical needs, as they demonstrate that the school is fulfilling its duty to protect students’ well-being

Increased Student Attendance

  • Chronic Health Condition Management:

School nurses help students manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies. Ensuring students receive proper care and medication during school hours can reduce the frequency and severity of health-related absences. Students who feel supported in managing their health are less likely to miss school

  • Monitoring and Addressing Barriers to Attendance: School nurses often identify barriers to regular attendance, such as undiagnosed health problems or family-related issues. By working with students and families, they can help address these challenges and ensure that students receive the appropriate care and support to attend school regularly.

  • Meeting Students Broader Needs: By addressing the need for safety, health, belonging, esteem, and personal growth, schools can help students achieve their fullest potential, both academically and personally
